History & Provenance

This exquisite 1954 Austin-Healey 100/4 BN1 was built on July 13, 1954, and driven until 1965 when the car was then taken off the road requiring a transmission restoration.

In the 1970s, it was stripped and carefully catalogued, awaiting its return to glory.

Aware of the car for many years beforehand, it was purchased in 2000 by Richard Chrysler, a respected name in the Austin-Healey community, who then stored in his shop. I purchased the car in 2006 with the understanding that Richard Chrysler was going to rebuild the car for me. The car underwent a comprehensive restoration starting in 2007 until its completion in 2011. The restoration, using all original number matching parts, was executed by experts Colin Bailey (metalwork) and Chris Burgess (paint), and assembled by the late Richard Chrysler and his son Geoff.

Restoration & Certification:

Restoration Start: September 2007
Restoration Completion: June 2011

Original Parts: Retained and meticulously restored including the original 3 speed transmission and factory O/D. A new roof, tonneau cover, and floor carpets were installed matching the correct, original factory colours. (Some of the original interior is included with the sale.)

Original Colours: Restored to its factory original black paint and red/persimmon interior with scarlet red convertible top, the car has been since been used as a colour reference – see here.

Achieved Gold Level Certification in August 2011 from the Austin-Healey Concours Registry in Paradise, Pennsylvania.

Upgrades

Wheels: Replaced original 48-spoke painted wheels with 60-spoke chrome wheels.
Battery: Upgraded from two 6-volt batteries to a single 12-volt battery.
Interior: Original leather seats and armrests (included with sale) replaced with fresh leather by Geoff Chrysler.

Condition Notes

Transmission: Features a minor, manageable leak since acquisition, addressing it would enhance the car’s mechanical perfection.

Driving Experience

With just over 41,300 miles, this Austin-Healey drives beautifully, feeling tight and responsive. Esteemed members of the Austin-Healey Club of Southern Ontario can vouch for its exceptional performance and condition.

This Austin-Healey 100/4 BN1 is not just a car; it’s a piece of automotive history, restored to award-winning standards and ready for its next chapter with a discerning owner.
